She is a really incredible young woman.
We have been discussing identity lately in lifeskills class. The girls are looking at where they have come from, what they love, who they are. Looking deeper, past Tanzania, past Maasai, past woman, daughter, student, into the things that make them who they are. After every meeting one or more of the girls shares a story about who they are using an: "I am a _______ woman" statement.
I visited Anna's boma this week.
There in the small and empty mud room hangs this piece of paper on the wall.
It's a letter to herself. It reads:
From your lovely Anna
I am outgoing woman
I am beautiful woman
I am a brave woman
I am intelligent educated young woman
Nobody loves you like I do
Maybe we should all write ourselves this kind of letter.
Sometimes I feel like a proud mother, an honored friend, an enriched human because of girls like Anna.
~Thanks to Phoenix and my incredible Advanced friends for helping me discover what kind of woman I am. The love is being passed around here in Tanzania.~

I am a proud mother, and honored friend, an enriched human because of you, Quinn Lauren.
After our conversation several weeks ago, I wondered how you would proceed with your life skills course. Reading this blog I know the answer. I am proud of you for the tact you took on making the appropriate cultural translation. You are a proud mother, my honored friend...thank you!
