flutter

I found your number by the side of the road.

I called you up to see where things could go.

What you could be for me, who I could be to you.

Your answering machine said this is “so and so”.

You seemed far off, something I could never know.

I spoke my message clear and loud. This is me, no fuckin’ around.

I know what I want but I don’t know what you got.

It was too sincere, too prioritized.

Loosen up baby, take the toy boat ride.

Let down your braids and complex ways.

Look to the sun, soak in the rays.

Leave the mud on those shoes and forget who’s caring.

Let the caged bird sing, spread those wings. There is ground to discover.

I got caught in the moment, a scramble for rich life.

Wish I could walk backwards into time and leave your number there, floating in the wind like paper crane.

Leave all the questions, step over the lies.

Pass on by into another life.

It all happened with the bend of the knee.

After all it was on a concrete road, not a grassy hill near a tree.

Now that’s me.
